SINGAPORE: Singapore Airlines (SIA) has said it will cancel most of its flights until the end of June. The announcement comes just four days after it said it would extend its near-shutdown until the end of May.

About 96% of scheduled flights will be cancelled, and the airline will fly only to 15 cities in that period, it said in a statement on its website. They include six Southeast Asian cities, Tokyo, London and Los Angeles.

Out of SIA Group’s fleet of approximately 200 aircraft, only about 10 are now in operation to serve a limited passenger network.

Singapore confirmed an additional 618 coronavirus cases on Saturday, bringing the city-state’s total to more than 12,600. A majority of the cases have occurred in dormitories that house foreign labourers.

Singapore Airlines has had 15 staff test positive for coronavirus since last month, with nine fully recovered, the Straits Times reported.

I have a ticket for travel on or before 30 June 2020

My ticket was issued on or before 15 March 2020

You can cancel your current booking and retain the full value of the unused portion of the ticket for future use in the form of flight credits. Eligible customers will also receive bonus flight credits. This is a token of appreciation from Singapore Airlines for your support, understanding, and patience during this challenging period. Whenever you are ready, you can use your flight credits to book your new travel by 30 June 2021, with rebooking fees waived.

If you meet the above conditions but do not wish to keep the value of your ticket as flight credits, you may opt for a refund. Cancellation fees will be waived.

Partially used tickets
If your ticket has been partially used (i.e. you’ve already flown part of your itinerary), you will receive flight credits for the unused portion of your ticket, but you will not be eligible for any bonus credits. You can also opt for a refund via your original mode of payment.

KrisFlyer redemption and ‘Mix KrisFlyer Miles and Cash’ bookings
If your booking was redeemed with or paid for (partially or fully) with KrisFlyer miles, you will not be eligible for flight credits or bonus flight credits. For redemption tickets, you will receive a full refund of your KrisFlyer miles and airport taxes. Those who purchased their tickets using a combination of miles and cash will receive a refund to the original mode of payment as well.

Any refunded miles that would have expired, would have their validity extended to 30 June 2021. We will also waive the fees to redeposit the miles back to your account.

Request for flight credits or refund

Flight credits

The value of each passenger ticket will be retained in the form of flight credits equivalent to the amount paid for the original flight ticket, inclusive of taxes.

Credit card service fees for selected countries as well as booking fees for offline ticket purchases are not included as part of the flight credits.

Seat selection fees, excess baggage or Singapore Stopover Holiday package purchases will be refunded via your original payment method.

As our offices around the world have been affected by government-imposed lockdowns, it will take longer than usual to process refunds. We will prioritise the processing of refunds based on the earliest scheduled departure dates. For example, departures scheduled for March 2020 will be processed first, followed by departures in April 2020. We seek your understanding and thank you for your patience.

If you purchased travel insurance via Singapore Airlines, please contact AIG to cancel your policy for a refund.

Bonus flight credits

The value of the bonus flight credits that each eligible customer receives is based on the cabin class that they originally booked*:

Economy Class: SGD 75
Premium Economy Class: SGD 100
Business Class: SGD 200
Suites/First: SGD 500

*If the customer’s eligible ticket contains a combination of cabin classes, the bonus flight credits will be based on the higher cabin class.

You will receive these bonus flight credits upon rebooking, and they will be used to offset the amount of your new trip. If you prefer, you can opt for a refund via your original mode of payment. Cancellation fees will be waived.

All flight credits, including bonus credits, are valid up to 30 June 2021. You may use your flight credits for up to two separate bookings. Bonus credits will be used to offset the cost of the first trip when rebooking.
