Coronavirus Updates

April 20th 2020

Dear students and partners,

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern made an important announcement today:

New Zealand will change our COVID-19 Alert Level to Level 3 from 23.59 on 27/04/2020

What changing to Level 3 means for New Zealand:

    • We need to work and learn from home if we can, this includes CCEL.
    • We must keep to our bubble. If we need to, we can expand our bubble a small amount to bring in close family.
    • Some businesses can reopen.
    • Most public venues will remain closed (libraries, museums, gyms etc.)

What this means for CCEL:

  • We will continue to do our learning and teaching online until further notice.

Why we will continue our learning and teaching online:

  • This is what the government has asked us to do.
  • We want to keep our students and staff as safe as possible.
  • Under Level 3 restrictions, we still need to observe social distancing. This includes staying two meters apart. We think this makes face-to-face teaching and learning very difficult.

How we will help our students:

    • Our students will continue learning daily with their teacher and classmates.
    • Our online afternoon activities programme connects our students outside of class.
    • We will continue to contact all of our students personally to monitor their wellbeing.
    • We have staff available to answer questions you may have:

Please keep in mind our Prime Minister’s advice:

This period of time is our chance to break the chain of transmission. The quicker we do that the sooner we can return to some semblance of normal life.
